WHAT DOES A VISITING CARE ASSISTANT DO?
A visiting care assistant works closely with their customers. This includes providing services such as:
Good conversation and companionship:
You may play a game, talk about news topics, or simply engage with a person.
Personal care:
Assist the customer with their needs, including dressing, bathing, and continence care.
Mobility support:
Many times, they need someone to hold onto them when they walk, or you may be able to help them get up and out of a chair.
Medication support:
Provide medication prescribed by a doctor when they need it.
Light household chores:
Help them to keep the home tidy, handle the wash, and keep the home organised.
Prepare meals:
This may include helping with the preparing and cooling of nutritious meals.
Run errands:
From medical appointments to going to do some shopping, many times, customers need some help getting around safely.

Do I need to have a driver’s licence to work with Horizon Care?
A driving licence is preferred however it is not essential for a health care assistant job role. When applying, let us know you do not hold a licence and we can accommodate a walking run. Enabling job roles require a driving licence. As you may need to drive an individual to and from an appointment or for errands.
How many hours per day will I work as a carer?
As a carer, the hours you work and the work you do is dependent on the specific needs of each client. Depending on your flexibility our team will work with you to determine the best allocation of hours based on our and your own needs. We can provide guaranteed hours for those looking for a steady and reliable income.
Will I be responsible for medical care for customers?
A visiting assistant care provider does not provide medical help. Rather, you’ll work to meet their other needs, including helping with personal hygiene and dressing, preparing meals, and helping to tidy up the home. These supportive services help to ensure a person’s home and life as in good order.
I don’t have experience working as a career. Can I still apply?
Yes! You do not need any experience working in the field to work for Horizon Care. We provide comprehensive training and support for you throughout the process. You will benefit by working with our talented team of professionals who will support you.
How much does Horizon Care pay?
Numerous factors go into how much we pay our team members. However, you can expect us to pay in excess of the average market salary.
In addition to a competitive salary, we also offer up to 65 hours of free childcare every month at our exclusive Horizon Care nursery or at any other nursery of your choice!
We pay candidates who already have a relevant NVQ 2/3 at a higher rate and pay drivers for collecting and dropping home a second carer.
When you meet with us to discuss employment, we’ll provide more insight into the pay structure.
Do I get paid for training with Horizon Care?
Yes, we pay you £520 to complete our short training induction and shadow shifts. We provide comprehensive, hands-on training that allows you to feel confident when you are ready to start working. Refresher training is paid at your hourly rate.
Do employees get their fuel paid for?
Employees receive at least an additional £1.25 per hour for fuel allowance
Do carers get travel time?
No, however we offer a fair pay scheme
Do carers get paid cancellations?
Yes, we work on a ‘fair pay’ scheme
What is fair pay?
Fair pay is a scheme we use to ensure carers do not get penalised due to cancellations, or if care calls take longer than expected.
How many clients do you visit in one shift?
This can vary as client’s calls take between 30mins – 90mins
Will Horizon cover the cost to put employees through their NVQ’s?
Yes, Horizon Care is dedicated to providing ongoing support and training.
How does the childcare work?
Every two hours a carer works, Horizon will pay 1 hour of childcare capped at 65 hours per month.
